What our guests say

Thanks for a great holiday – we enjoyed every experience particularly the walks, accommodation, food and company. We will have life long memories of our walking tour of Northern Italy.

– Graham & Jill

Thank you Bruno & Christine for a wonderful tour. In a few word “Buonissimo” our Northern Italian walking tour was a smorgasbord of breathtaking scenery, compelling history, cultural insights, fine Italian cuisine and wines and many captivating Italian characters all superbly packaged and led by you both.

– Ellis & Bronwyn

Many thanks for a wonderful tour of Northern Italy. We certainly met the locals and felt that we were a part of this beautiful region. The tour was set at a very comfortable pace which made the distance travelled by both walking and train easy and rewarding. Once again thank you for showing us this colourful Region of Northern Italy and your great pre-tour info reading.

– Bob & Barbara

Thanks to Bruno & Christine for the wonderful experience we shared with you and 14 other intrepid adventurers which ended far too quickly. The food, the views and camaraderie of the tour group were complemented by the care and attention given to us. This adventure will remain high on our list of memorable experiences.

– Mario & Cheryl

Thanks again for an interesting and informative trip, we really appreciated how much preparation you put into the program. It’s not only all that but also the way you looked after us so well too, we will remember this for a very long time. Let us know any future trips planned and we will be there!!

– Fred & Susan

This unique tour will have you comfortably based in the picturesque NSW Southern Tableland’s village of Crookwell for 4 nights where each day we will head out to discover many lesser known heritage sites and scenic delights.

Lunch & dinner included.

Depart Nowra at 5.30am, Wollongong 7:00am, Sutherland 8:30am, Strathfield 9:30am then to Mittagong for morning tea.    At Marulan we stop at Meridian Park where a sculpture marks the path of the 150 degree meridian line that passes through the town at this spot – the only town in the world on its path!

We travel on through Goulburn for a picnic lunch stop in the charming village of Taralga where numerous stone buildings dating back to the 1860s dominate the town’s architecture.   After lunch we step back in time and visit the town Museum  complex  housing a  colonial cottage, slab dairy, shearing shed/blacksmith complex and the recently added Nissan Hut containing war records.    On to Crookwell where we settle in to our 3 star motel accommodation for the next four nights.   Dinner tonight in the Hotel Crookwell bistro.

Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.

After a full breakfast in a Crookwell cafe we then drive via Rugby, Boorowa and Murringo to Iandra.   As we drive past grazing sheep and prime cropping country the last thing you expect to see is a castle, however this is just what you will see! The Iandra Castle is a massive historic building built as the home for George Henry Green, local landowner, grazier and politician after whom nearby Greenthorpe is named.   We are guided through the castle and hear about Green’s amazing life story of being a European immigrant who developed the property, built his mansion and made himself “Lord of the Manor” out of little but ambition, vision, enterprise and the riches of the land.   We enjoy a picnic lunch in the gardens before returning to Crookwell via gravel backroads past Wyangala Dam and the villages of Bigga and Binda.

Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.

First highlight after breakfast is a special organ recital by maestro David Johnson on the largest digital pipe organ in the Southern Hemisphere.   We will try to stump him with our requests so give it some thought.   We are next taken on a guided town tour of Crookwell with the local guide before heading to a local farm where alpacas are run and we get up close and personal with these inquisitive animals. Later we enjoy lunch and a guided walk around a commercial Lavender Farm before an early dinner and short drive to nearby Laggan village for an evening of bush poetry at the pub.

Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.

We drive to Tuena located in a pretty valley between Crookwell and Bathurst. Tuena is rich in gold mining and bushranger stories following the discovery of gold in 1851. From here we head to Abercrombie Caves where we take a self guided tour of the caves and see “the archway”, the biggest natural limestone bridge in the southern hemishere. After a picnic lunch we drive the Bald Ridge Track to the historic former copper mining town of Burraga. From here we drive back to Crookwell via “The Tablelands Way” route.

Breakfast & lunch included.

After breakfast we drive to Gunning where we are met by a local guide and shown around this once bustling Hume Highway town before it was bypassed by the new road. See the old Baileys Holden Dealership with murals painted on the walls of many classic Holden cars and also many of the town’s other interesting heritage places.   After a picnic lunch in Gunning we drive a section of the Old Highway 31 over the highest elevation of the road between Sydney and Melbourne across the Cullerin Range.   The main southern railway line also follows the Highway route over the Cullerins and we see the huge loops in the tracks that enable the trains to get up and over the ranges. We see the Hume and Hovell monument marking the spot from where their historic expedition was started.   As we cross the Cullerin Range Bruce Bishop (Tour leader) will give his personal stories of his experiences when regularly driving his R600 Mack over this section of Old 31 back in the 1970’s.   We return to Strathfield at 5:00pm, Sutherland 6:00pm, Wollongong 7:30pm and Nowra 9:00pm.
