What our guests say

Thanks for a great holiday – we enjoyed every experience particularly the walks, accommodation, food and company. We will have life long memories of our walking tour of Northern Italy.

– Graham & Jill

Thank you Bruno & Christine for a wonderful tour. In a few word “Buonissimo” our Northern Italian walking tour was a smorgasbord of breathtaking scenery, compelling history, cultural insights, fine Italian cuisine and wines and many captivating Italian characters all superbly packaged and led by you both.

– Ellis & Bronwyn

Many thanks for a wonderful tour of Northern Italy. We certainly met the locals and felt that we were a part of this beautiful region. The tour was set at a very comfortable pace which made the distance travelled by both walking and train easy and rewarding. Once again thank you for showing us this colourful Region of Northern Italy and your great pre-tour info reading.

– Bob & Barbara

Thanks to Bruno & Christine for the wonderful experience we shared with you and 14 other intrepid adventurers which ended far too quickly. The food, the views and camaraderie of the tour group were complemented by the care and attention given to us. This adventure will remain high on our list of memorable experiences.

– Mario & Cheryl

Thanks again for an interesting and informative trip, we really appreciated how much preparation you put into the program. It’s not only all that but also the way you looked after us so well too, we will remember this for a very long time. Let us know any future trips planned and we will be there!!

– Fred & Susan

You will be surprised by what lies hidden away in these quaint old country towns on the Tablelands of Southern NSW – highlights include grand old mansions, fascinating histories, great scenery and especially the country hospitality. After your visit you will wonder why these places are not better known!

DAY 1 To Braidwood

Lunch & dinner included

Pick-ups from Wollongong 6:45am, Sutherland 8:00am, Strathfield 9:00am then on to Mittagong for morning tea. We drive via Bungonia and Windellama to Braidwood and enjoy a picnic lunch on arrival. After lunch we are joined by a local guide who will lead us on a very interesting tour of this National Trust classified former gold rush town. Learn about the Chinese and bushranger involvement during the gold rush and about the many films that have been shot in Braidwood along with the fascinating story of the town’s founder. Our motel is situated in the centre of town and tonight we dine at the Royal Mail Hotel that was made famous by Mick Jagger when he spent time in Braidwood for the filming of the movie “Ned Kelly”.

DAY 2 Highlights of Braidwood & district

Breakfast, lunch & dinner included

This morning we visit the historic Bedervale homestead just on the outskirts of Braidwood. This is one of Australia’s treasures! Designed by John Verge who also designed Camden Park and Elizabeth Bay House and built in the 1830s for a very wealthy sea captain, Bedervale was occupied by the same family for many generations over 130 years. The contents of the house are still in situ and are quite extraordinary. After morning tea in the 2 hectare garden we drive via Majors Creek and the very adventurous Old Coach Road down into the pretty Araluen Valley. We enjoy a stop near the place where bushranger Ben Hall held up a stage coach carrying gold from Araluen. Lunch is enjoyed at the Araluen Hotel before returning to Braidwood and free time in town. Dinner tonight is at the Braidwood Servicemans Club.

DAY 3 Braidwood to Bombala

Breakfast, lunch & dinner included

We spend this morning in Captains Flat with a local guide leading us around the former mining town and telling us many stories of days gone by. Morning tea and a picnic lunch are enjoyed here before departing for Bombala via backroads to Cooma (short stop) then along the Snowy Mountain and Monaro Highways. We settle in to our motel in central Bombala for the next four nights.

DAY 4 Highlights of Bombala

Breakfast, lunch & dinner included

Most of this morning is spent in the Railway Park in Bombala where there is much to see including the historic engine shed, and museum of local artefacts and farm implements. The most unusual though is Lavender House with education facilities, displays on distillation and an array of lavender products. After a picnic lunch we visit the historic mansion Burnima House on the towns outskirts. Built in the 1890s by the same builder that constructed Yarralumla, the residence of the Governor General in Canberra, this could possibly be Australia’s most haunted house. We are guided through the house by the resident owner and enjoy a stroll around the 6 acre garden.

Bombala has one of the most prolific population of platypus in NSW. They are best seen either early or late in the day so this afternoon we drive to the Platypus Reserve and enjoy drinks and nibblies on the viewing platform.

DAY 5 McKillops Bridge on the Snowy River

Breakfast, lunch & dinner included

Today is a day of adventure with the drive through mountainous Victorian scenery to the Snowy River where the historic McKillops Bridge crosses. The bridge is sited in a magnificent alpine river gorge and when it was built during the great depression it was regarded as one of the standing wonders of Australian bridge engineering. At that time it was the longest welded steel truss road bridge in the world. The bridge was built to allow the easy passage of livestock being walked to and from the high country in NSW and Victoria’s Gippsland. We enjoy time here for a picnic lunch and a stroll over the bridge. On our return drive to Bombala we stop in the border town of Delegate.

DAY 6 Boydtown, Eden & Tathra

Breakfast, lunch & dinner included

After a late start we drive over to the coast by backroads and visit Boydtown and Eden on Twofold Bay then on to Tathra for a picnic lunch. Back to Bombala with an afternoon stop in historic Cathcart. This town developed on one of the busy roads to and from the gold fields at Kiandra and still has the hotel built during that era that was prefabricated in the USA and transported over. Also in town is the “Cathcart Collectables” an amazing collection of Monaro history and memorabilia. The display ranges from tractors and farm machinery to coins and bottle openers. Tonight we visit a local club for our last night on tour dinner

DAY 7 via Nimmitabel to Sydney

Breakfast & lunch included

Our drive today is via Nimmitabel, Queanbeyan and Goulburn with stops along the way and lunch in Goulburn. Return times approx 5:00pm Strathfield, 6:00pm Sutherland, 7:30pm Wollongong
